Monte Paulsen is among Canada’s most experienced Passive House professionals. He leads a multi-city Passive House team that has consulted to or certified more than 70 projects – totaling four million square feet – including homes, offices, affordable mid-rise and luxury high-rise.
Monte has consulted on Passive House projects ranging from single-family homes to high-rise residential towers and has conducted performance testing in more than 600 buildings.
He is also a Passive House Trainer who has helped more than 100 professionals earn their Certified Passive House Designer (CPHD) credential. His regular courses range from a one-day “Passive House 101” overview to a multi-day “Pattern Language from Passive House” workshop designed for CPHDs and architectural professionals with Passive House project experience.
Monte works closely with the Passive House Institute (PHI) in Darmstadt, Germany. He currently serves on committees advising PHI on large buildings certification issues, and recently served on the advisory board for the 23rd International Passive House Conference in Gaeobedian, China.
He also advises governments including the City of Vancouver on high-performance building policy. He founded the Vancouver-area PHPP Users Group and was a founding board member of the non-profit organization now known as Passive House Canada.
Prior to joining RDH in 2016, Monte was the principal of Red Door Energy Design Ltd., which merged its Passive House consulting and certification operations with RDH in late 2016.
