Deep Dive Into Passive House Windows (Darren Macri)

4 Hour Afternoon Workshop • 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM • Wednesday, Oct. 17

This workshop will explore differences in Passive House windows, what makes high performance windows effective, and how they support effective thermal and moisture management in building assemblies. Workshop leader Darren Macri will demonstrate how windows incorporate all the essential layers of a building into one component, including thermal resistance, structure, weather resistance and water shedding, exterior and interior finish, ventilation, security, accessibility, and safety. The workshop will examine common problems with conventional windows and use that as a jumping off point to delve into the three essential components of window design: frame, hardware, and glass. The workshop will provide a thorough exploration of North American versus European window assemblies.
